In this enchanting watercolor by Maurice Fallies, a man strolls along the left riverbank towards the Pont Saint-Michel and the Quai des Orfèvres, or Goldmakers' Quai, on the left. The painting's primary colors are soft beiges with the man and subtle gray shadows, creating a harmonious and calming effect.
In the distance, the Pont Saint-Michel stands in creamy beige with hints of pale gray, blending seamlessly into the scene. The sky above is painted in delicate, changing shades of blue, while white buildings in the distance gleam in the sunlight. Tall green trees, in varying shades, add lovely highlights to the scene, and Fallies' signature touch is evident in the pink building with a gray roof on the upper right.
Post-Impressionist artists, like Fallies, focused on the use of color to convey emotion and atmosphere rather than just capturing the natural world. They used vivid, sometimes unnatural colors, thick application of paint, and often symbolic content to express deeper meanings and feelings.
The soft colors in this painting evoke a sense of tranquility and nostalgia, making it a versatile piece that could fit beautifully in any setting.
It captures a gentle, dreamy memory of Paris, inviting the viewer to step into the serene moment it portrays. Maurice Fallies’ works have been displayed in esteemed galleries
such as the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay, and his art continues to enchant and inspire audiences worldwide.

We have carefully double matted it in pale white – it only needs to slip into a frame. Carefully double matted with a generous border which shows off the painting to their fullest.
