Majestic Notre Dame at the tip of Ile de la Cite’ (7.5" x 10")
We love this watercolor because it showcases the ancient history of Paris and the iconic island where Notre Dame was built. In the front are two men fishing while a steam boat sails by. Fallies and his generation of post impressionists was fascinated by the coming of the industrial age, and became famous for his depictions. See the crane on the Left Bank, another new invention. The blue sky which is softly hiden by white clouds sets off the Fall scene in Paris. Trees are gently turning brown to orange. He picks up different tones of blue, with incredible skill in the Seine. Note how you see the walls reflected in the water below. It’s a stunning serene scene, but telling you ‘Watch, the seasons and the world are slowly chaning…’ Fallies' works have been displayed at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and other French museums. His name and talent are emerging as one of the important painters of the late 19th and early 20th century.
We have carefully double matted it in pale white – it only needs to slip into a frame. Carefully double matted with a generous border which shows off the painting to their fullest.
